Welcome to a new knitting year! Our Christmas tree traditionally comes down on the 6th of January and I spend the first week of January assessing my wips, organising the fibre and yarn stash, along and trolling through the Ravelry pattern database planning my queue for the next few months.
Here’s a round up of some knitterly things happening…
Swallowtail Knit ALong (KAL): It’s our first KAL for the year, and it’s not to late to join. The Swallowtail Shawl designed by Evelyn A. Clark, made it’s first appearance in the Fall issue of Interweave Knits in 2006 and over 8,000 of these pretty lace shawls have been knit and are a perfect fashion accessory. The pattern is currently available as a free Ravelry download.
Join the online discussions in the Swallowtail KAL discussion thread and chat with some of the Twitter knitters using the hashtag #swallowtailkal.
Need help in choosing your yarn? I recommend going to This is Knit, where the friendly staff know this pattern quite well and can recommend a lovely skein of yarn for your lace project.
The DKC Sock Club 2013: Yes, we are starting the year off on the the right foot : ) All sock knitters (and crocheters) unite! Pop into our DKC Sock Club 2013 discussion thread and say hello. Come and go as you please. Sit back and knit a pair of handknit socks!
Cosy Up in January: Our knitterly friends over at The Constant Knitter are having their first ever, Tea Cosy Competition. Show off your fabulous creations and raise funds for St Brigid’s Primary School while you’re at it. So create a tea cosy in the month of January….knit, crochet, felt, sew or whatever creative way you can possibly dream of.
Details and deadlines are posted on The Constant Knitter’s Website. So get your tea on…I look forward to seeing the entries!
New and the Newly Discovered Knitting Groups: I try to keep on top of the knitting and fibre groups in and around Dublin. So here’s an update of the new groups in town.
