The Rathmines Knitting Club is one of Dublin’s oldest (established in 2006) social knitting groups. For seven years, Cafe Moda has been home to the local knitters every Tuesday evening while enjoying a bit of knit and knatter along with a dose of coffee, tea or a hot chocolate.
Recently, we learned that the closing hours of the Cafe have changed and therefore will not be able to play host to this local knitting group. We will miss Cafe Moda on a Tuesday evening, as we walk through the cafe down to the lower level and finding our knitters’ niche. Thank you to all the Staff at Cafe Moda for making us feel welcome these past seven years, and perfecting the hot chocolate.
Fear not, knitters….the Rathmines Knitting Club is moving to a new venue, same night, same time! We’ll be just down the road:
The Rathmines Inn
Tuesday 28 May from 7pm to 9pm
I’m Claire Organ and I’m a member of Needle Natters in Bonmahon, Co.Waterford. The Copper Coast along the sunny South-East. I’m asking you, friends and your group to join in our World Wide Knit Day with knitting/crocheting flowers of all colours and types of yarn to make an art collage/installation of a “Heart” to support and raise funds for Heart Children Ireland. The art installation will then go on tour.
I’m trying to get as many knitters/crocheters involved across the country.
My inspiration for this was at Christmas when I saw Dr. Orla Franklin a Paediatric Cardiac Consultant on the news speaking about the difficulties the Cardiac Dept have on a daily basis in Crumlin Childrens Hospital with outdated cardiac wards and especially now with the current climate. I just thought I have to do something!
So I suggested at the Needle Natters group to get involved in fundraising for Heart Children Ireland. I can’t run a marathon or jump out of a plane so this is what we came up with. Orlaith Hamersley is the artist/designer (www.hamersleyart.com) of the art installation with The Wool Shop, Bonmahon hosting the event (www.thewoolshop.ie).
My eldest son Scott was diagnosed with Hocum(Obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy)when he was 14 and underwent life saving surgery. He has an ICD and controlled by medication. Only for the expertise of Mr Kevin Walsh, Mr Lars Nolke and caring of Crumlin Childrens Hospital Cardiac Dept he would not be here today; Heart Children were a fantastic support to us and are to many families in our situation.
Heart Children Ireland is a charity which supports children with Congenital Heart Defects. They support the children, parents and Crumlin Children Hospital by raising much needed funds for equipment in and out of hospital, nurses and anything which makes life easier for Heart Children. http://www.HeartChildrenIreland.ie
Please join us with this event create a lovely piece of art and support Heart Children.
With every flower donate a Euro – these can be sent to Orlaith Hamersley, Needle Natters, Bonmahon, Co.Waterford.
Postal orders/cheques to be made out to Heart Children Ireland.
