Knit-in at The Hopsack

Friday Knit Night at The Hopsack in the Swan Centre, Rathmines

How do I join a Knitting Group?

Ever wonder what happens at a knitting group? How to join a group?

Pick a group from you want to join, all are welcome at knitting groups listed on our Knit in the City Page

Most of the groups meet in a cafe or pub and if you can’t see a knitter when you arrive, just ask the staff who will point you in the right direction.

Most venues do not charge a booking or rental fee for the space, so we support our local business community by ordering an item or two from their menu while we’re knitting away for a couple of hours.

Sit back with a coffee, tea, or cake , knitting project and enjoy your experience at a knit and knatter

Fabric Charm Packs: Part 2

20140323-202338.jpg fabric charm pack purchased from Sew in Rathmines

I made several paper hexagon templates and gathered some paper clips to try my hand at some paper piecing.

The hexagon template is placed in the centre of the fabric square.

Fold the fabric along one side of the hexagon template and anchor with a paper clip.

Continue to fold the fabric over each side of the hexagon template.

Added tip: use this pointer tool to crease and press the edges and corners of the fabric

Run a basting stitch through the fabric (avoid piercing through to the paper)

Trim the fabric.

Here’s a collection of hexagons from one charm pack. Press each hexagon and now they are ready to be paper pieced

Handsew the hexagons together, then remove the paper template carefully and press….

The possibilities are endless…The joys of hand sewing: )

Knitting keeps you healthy…

We’ve known all along that knitting is good for the mind, body (maybe?) and soul. The DKC supports there are health benefits associated with joining a social knitting group.

My local health food shop, The Hopsack posted this interesting article on their Twitter feed recently and invited The DKC to start a knitting group within their shop.

I’ll be at The Hopsack in the Swan Shopping Centre, Rathmines….this Friday 21st March from 6pm to 8pm staging their first knit-in : )

Drop in and say hello or bring your knitting project and join this new Knit-in at The Hopsack.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!

The day when the world celebrates Irishness….

I’ll be spinning my greens…

I was always intrigued by this booklet of fabric squares every time I browsed through my local fabric and haberdashery shop, Sew

Several days and countless hours of perusing through the sewing boards on Pinterest, I decided to make a few paper piece hexagons.

It’s Paddy, not Patty

It’s that time of year when my social media timelines start the great debate…Paddy versus Patty.

1 ) Patrick = Pádraig = Paddy
2 ) St. Patrick’s Day is on 17th March.
3 ) St. Paddy’s Day is a national holiday here.
4 ) We never use Patty for Patrick = Pádraig = Paddy
5 ) Patty = burger

I finally got around to writing and uploading one of my knitting with wire patterns. Just in time for Paddy’s Day

I’m making a statement by launching my new pattern, It’s Paddy, not Patty a shamrock brooch knit with wire.

The pattern is available as a free Ravelry download…
