I am living through a knitting revolution as a knit enthusiast. My passion for this thing called knitting has transformed itself from a hobby to a lifestyle.
The Dublin Knit Collective started off as a blog where I chronicled the knitting scene in Dublin.
The Dublin Knit Collective was a place to brew knitwit ideas with other knitters when discussion online forums on Ravelry and Yahoo Chat popped up on the internet.
With the explosion of social media, the Dublin Knit Collective transformed into a persona as @TheDKC on Twitter.
I found myself as @TheDKC live Tweeting events and interacting with other Twitter knitters in Ireland and the UK.
There are many times when my social life has revolved around the online and offline knitting community in Ireland.
From blogger to enabler of Knitworking events, which are are social gatherings with other knitters throughout the city.
I engage in taking knitting out of the home and out on the town either at a café, pub or other places where I find myself just knitting….
2017 will be an exciting year….
It’s the start of a new knitworking year!
Winter and chilled atmospheric temperatures are bringing out the best of knitting hats, scarves and jumpers.
Join a knitting group or knit along this month and get in on the knitworking action.
The usual knitting groups will be back in the City Centre, Blanchardstown, Clondalkin, Churchtown, Finglas, Rathmines, Tallaght, Templeogue….
Keep an eye out for yarn crawls, pop up SnB’s, and other events in 2017!
Traditionally, I”ve hosted a Sock Knit Along every January.
This year, I will be working toward Knitting Goal # 1: 12 Socks in 2017.
1) Stash dive, pick a yarn, any sock yarn in your stash.
2) Choose a pattern, a cuff down or toe up.
3) Magic loop or Dpns?
4) Cast on anytime after 01.01.17
5) Join our banter and chat in the DKC Knit Along Facebook group or in the DKC Ravelry discussuion thread.
So who’s in?
In the coming days, I will be celebrating ten years in Ireland. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been a part of Dublin’s knitting scene for a decade.
My first interaction with the knitters of Ireland was on an online Yahoo discussion forum called Stitch n Bitch IE several months prior to my move to Dublin.
I remember my very first knit social outing was a the City Centre Stitch n Bitch in a coffee shop on Westmoreland Street. It was well attend by several knitters from the Yahoo group, who to this day I still keep in touch with and are good friends.
To celebrate my ten years of knitworking in Dublin, I will be giving away a skein of my handspun, approximately 100m of corridale in fingering weight
All you have to do is post a comment below. Competition closes Saturday 5th November 2016 at midnight, when I will randomly select a winner. Sorry, but the contest is only open to residents of the Republic of Ireland & Northern Ireland.
My ten year anniversary celebration will be ongoing throughout the year and well into 2017. So watch this space…
On a knitworking note, join me in town this coming Saturday 5th November, as I knit off at City Centre SnB – Accents Coffee & Tea Lounge from 12pm to 2pm. Then I plan to head over to my favourite lunch spot for some Lebanese food (just pop me a message if you plan to come along).

We will be spreading our love for Irish designers and Ravelry.com. If you are familiar with DKC events, there will be a draw to win Ravelry promo codes for knitting patterns from Littlefellers, Lunasa, Sparkles-Glitters, and UnderMeOxter.
