Hello Dublin Knitters!

On this day in 2007, The Dublin Knit Collective first appeared in the blogsphere. Check out The DKC’s first blogpost.

Blogging about the Dublin Knit scene was very different ten years ago. I captured photos with a point and shoot camera. My pics were au naturale and not carefully staged with props. Then, I went home to my laptop, wrote a paragraph or two, uploaded the photos from my computer or camera with a USB cable. Then posted it online for the blogsphere to see.

There was a time when one was never asked to subscribe to a blog or a newsletter. There were no smartphones, no mobile internet to tweet or Instagram. Who would have thought that ten years from that post on 1st August in 2007, I would be holding a handheld device, and with the swipe of a finger …

Instagraming for all to see… what, where and with who I’m knitting whilst drinking an Americano.

(Yes, the above photo was carefully staged at a local café;)

Let’s take a stroll through memory lane…

It was always exciting to read about my two favourite yarnshop proprietors in Dublin in an actual paper magazine or newspaper.

Lisa Sisk of This is Knit

Rosemary Murphy of The Constant Knitter

When knitters talked about knitting a Clap, they were not referring to a Sexually Transmitted Disease..

The Owls sweater gave new meaning to a cabled jumper knit along.

I think the funniest blogpost and provides commentary to what it was like pre-Google…is How to Get to This is Knit.  I remember taking the photos at the DART stations and getting strange looks from the platform staff.  How was I to know that Google maps and GPS tracking was going to make this type of blogpost so obsolete in 2017?

So what’s in store for the next ten years?   The DKC is going to knitwork like it’s 1999….

A bit of fun…

The Summer Sunday Knitting sessions at The Constant Knitter are proving to be quite popular so far.

Last Sunday was particularly a warm day but did not stop us from celebrating Christmas in July.

Our next SSK social is Sunday 27th August. Watch this space!

 SSK?

I am delighted to announce a new collaboration between the DKC and The Constant Knitter.

This summer, I will be doing what I do best, knitworking and Rosemary will open the Studio for knitters and crocheters on the fourth Sunday during the summer months.

We would be delighted if you can join us on Sunday 25th June / 23rd July / 27th August from 2pm to 4pm.

We’ll put the kettle on, so bring a wip or start a new one and knitwork.

The DKC in 2017

I am living through a knitting revolution as a knit enthusiast. My passion for this thing called knitting has transformed itself from a hobby to a lifestyle.

The Dublin Knit Collective started off as a blog where I chronicled the knitting scene in Dublin.

The Dublin Knit Collective was a place to brew knitwit ideas with other knitters when discussion online forums on Ravelry and Yahoo Chat popped up on the internet.
With the explosion of social media, the Dublin Knit Collective transformed into a persona as @TheDKC on Twitter.

I found myself as @TheDKC live Tweeting events and interacting with other Twitter knitters in Ireland and the UK.

There are many times when my social life has revolved around the online and offline  knitting community in Ireland.

From blogger to enabler of Knitworking events, which are are social gatherings with other knitters throughout the city.

I engage in taking knitting out of the home and out on the town either at a café, pub or other places where I find myself just knitting….

2017 will be an exciting year….

Happy New Knitting Year!

It’s the start of a new knitworking year!

Winter and chilled atmospheric temperatures are bringing out the best of knitting hats, scarves and jumpers.

Join a knitting group or knit along this month and get in on the knitworking action.

The usual knitting groups will be back in the City Centre, Blanchardstown, Clondalkin, Churchtown, Finglas, Rathmines, Tallaght, Templeogue….

Keep an eye out for yarn crawls, pop up SnB’s,  and other events in 2017!

Traditionally, I”ve hosted a Sock Knit Along every January.

This year, I will be working toward Knitting Goal # 1: 12 Socks in 2017.

1)  Stash dive, pick a yarn, any sock yarn in your stash.

2)  Choose a pattern, a cuff down or toe up.

3)   Magic loop or Dpns?

4) Cast on anytime after 01.01.17
5) Join our banter and chat in the DKC Knit Along Facebook group or in the DKC Ravelry discussuion thread.

So who’s in?
